What’s Jason in the Wilderness?
This is my new website dedicated to my passion for being in nature and encapsulating it through photos, video, word, and sound. I'll be using this space to share my 15+ years of nature photography and wilderness experience and everything related to it. I hope to cover topics of artistic expression, techniques, equipment, environment, public lands and more. Have a suggestion or question? I’d love to hear them so please use the Contact page!
About Me
I’m a professional nature and outdoor photographer based out of Montrose, Colorado. My primary body of work focuses on documenting the public lands and natural areas of western North America.
I have over 20 years of experience with digital/film photography, and 10 years with video and aerial photography. My business includes working with the outdoor media industry, documentaries, production companies, advertising firms, national publications, and environmental advocacy groups. I also instruct seminars and workshops on nature photography and publish educational material including eBooks & photography tutorials.

My commitments to you
Respect Nature
I'm not naming specific locations, providing GPS coordinates, etc., unless it's already a well known spot and/or has the infrastructure to handle heavy traffic.
Almost everything I do is tied into Leave No Trace whether that's the products I use at home or what my impact is when traveling.
I follow the NATURE FIRST PRINCIPLES.My first desire is for everyone to be able to use what they already have and limit the impact of consumerism. I will recommend products I use but keep in mind I try to use everything I have for as long as possible and repair anything I can. I do my best to purchase items with the least environmental impact vs alternatives.
Respect You
I'm not going to spam you, use pop-ups, have annoying flashy ads, sell your information, run scamy contests to harvest your details for marketing, etc.
I will only recommend products and services I use or have experience with and will be completely honest in my reviews. I will only review products and services related to my expertise and needs. (For example I will not shill for stupid drop companies making the same rebranded apparel crap that contributes so much to our planet's waste problems.)
I make money off selling eBooks, guiding, prints, instructing, portfolio reviews, and product/service links from reviews and articles. You don't have to buy from my links, in fact I hope you buy local if it's possible, and I always recommend doing additional research. I'm always happy to accept donations, collaboration pitches, and other forms of support for my work. Minimal static ads related to the website's theme are considered for article pages but not the home page.
(This is something I will continue to perfect and evolve over time but the main spirit of the commitments will always be true.)
